ICE Arrests Iranian Man Amid National Security Concerns
On Sunday, Immigration Customs Enforcement (ICE) detained an individual from Iran, as stated by the Department of Homeland Security (DHS), which noted that this person “has never adjusted his position.” The detainee, Ribvar Karimi, resides in Locust Fork, Blount County, and is now facing deportation.
Karimi, who served as a sniper in the Iranian Army from 2018 to 2021, reportedly possessed an Iranian Army identification card at his arrest. He was among a group of 11 Iranians taken into custody over the weekend, with claims that they were residing in the U.S. unlawfully. This operation was part of DHS and ICE’s strategy to mitigate possible threats of terrorism in light of recent military actions against Iran’s nuclear sites.
DHS Deputy Chief Tricia McLaughlin commented on the situation, saying, “Under NOEM Secretary, DHS has entered through Biden’s fraudulent parole program or whatever, by identifying and arresting known or suspected terrorists and violent extremists who have entered the country illegally. We’ve said we’re getting the worst of the worst, and we don’t wait until a military operation to enforce it. We’ll actively support President Trump’s mission to secure our homeland.” This perspective hints at a certain urgency in the Department’s actions.
Interestingly, Karimi holds a K1 visa, which permits foreign nationals to enter the U.S. with the intention of marrying American citizens. He tied the knot just three months after his arrival in the country.
U.S. Senator Tommy Tuberville (R-Auburn) voiced his support for the arrests, emphasizing their importance for national security. He remarked, “Joe Biden’s open borders left all states vulnerable to illegal actors and terrorists. Now they are trying to escape the laws of small towns like Locust Fork, Alabama. Great work by ICE agents that ensure these offenders are held accountable.” His comments reflect a broader concern about national safety amidst changing immigration policies.
Senator Katie Britt (R-Montgomery) also expressed her approval of the arrests, highlighting issues surrounding immigration under the current administration. “Iran’s illegal aliens were not only allowed into our country under Biden’s open border, but almost half of them were released back inside. I am grateful that President Trump will return to the helm to detain and deport dangerous criminals,” she stated. This suggests some ongoing frustration with the handling of immigration issues.
