In-N-Out Burger reportedly prohibits employees from wearing masks while on duty unless they have a doctor’s note.

“We believe this policy will also help foster clear and effective communication between customers and employees,” the document reads. “We are introducing new mask guidelines that emphasize the importance of customer service and the ability of our employees to show a smile or other facial features while considering the health and well-being of all individuals.”

The leaked internal documents are addressed to branches operating in Utah, Arizona, Colorado, Nevada and Texas. Restaurants in California and Oregon were excluded from the document.
