‘Incarcerate The Criminals’: El Salvador’s Leader Explains How US Can Follow His Lead And Squash Crime

National Harbor, Maryland — El Salvador's President Nayib Boucle told the Daily Caller News Foundation on Thursday that the United States needs to jail criminals to stem the rise in violent crime, similar to his policies.

Bukele, who was recently re-elected in a landslide with more than 84% of the vote, was in the Washington, D.C. area to speak at the Conservative Political Action Conference (CPAC), which brings together some of the most prominent conservatives in the United States and around the world. He was visiting the United States. After delivering a keynote address targeting left-wing and globalist ideologies, Bukele spoke backstage with the DCNF and called on the world to follow its example in reducing crime. “Jail the criminals,” Bukele told the DCNF in response to a question about how the U.S. should reduce homicide rates in major cities. Bukele has promoted a policy of mass incarceration of gang members, which has been criticized by human rights watchdogs, but has led to a dramatic drop in crime rates nationwide, as well as a drop in murder rates. 70% In 2023.

In his speech at the conference, Bukele implored the United States to adopt tough-on-crime policies amid violence and drug use in major cities.

“How many young people have we lost on the streets of Philadelphia and San Francisco to fentanyl? Did we see these apocalyptic scenes 15, 10, 5 years ago? In the next 5 years? , can you imagine what it will be like in 10, 15 years? The same thing was happening in El Salvador,” Bukele said before explaining his strategy of mass incarceration. He strongly criticized the policies of left-wing district attorneys and judges in American cities. They have often embraced alternatives to pretrial confinement that critics argue lead to offenders being released to commit further crimes.

“These corrupt judges and prosecutors are letting gang members go free,” Bukele noted, adding, “It's not just gangs.” A corrupt system works in conjunction with the international community, NGOs, and of course fake news… unelected bureaucrats trying to establish public policy. ”

Apart from crime, Bukele's speech at the conference also discussed economic policy and taxation, criticizing high taxes in the United States and the Federal Reserve's printing of more money. “You pay high taxes just to maintain the illusion that you are funding the government, but in reality you are not…The government is funded by printing money and backing it with paper. The bubble is bursting. The situation is even worse than it seems.”

“If Americans and most of the world found out about this travesty, you would lose confidence in your currency.”

Bukele also specifically mentioned George Soros, a Hungarian-American billionaire who has financed many left-wing movements in the United States and abroad, as the root of problems for both countries.

“Why does he feel entitled to impose his policies? Let me tell you something: Soros and his cronies hit a brick wall in El Salvador. Thank God, and Glory to him, Salvadorans are now immune to his influence. No one believes his lies over there,” Bukele said, to loud applause from the CPAC audience.

Bukele argued that democratic action to elect conservative leaders is essential to solving the crime problem. “Fight, because in the end it will be worth it. It was so for us too. You will get your country back,” Bukele said.

Regarding the 2024 US presidential election, Bukele also told DCNF that he “prefers Trump” over President Joe Biden.
