Increasing dry heat as Yuma and Imperial Counties start to warm again

Yuma, Arizona Weather Update

Yuma and the surrounding Empire counties are experiencing a return to their typical desert heat after a brief and slightly cooler start to the week.

While temperatures dipped below normal for a bit, that relief didn’t last long.

According to forecasters from the National Weather Service, a gradual warming trend is already in effect and will continue through the weekend.

Temperatures are projected to soar back into the 100s, edging closer to or exceeding the seasonal average. By Friday and Saturday, afternoon highs are expected to reach between 106 and 109 degrees in much of the lower desert.

As temperatures climb, the likelihood of heat-related illnesses also grows. While not extreme, a moderate heat risk is anticipated, particularly during the late afternoon hours.

This weather is typical for late July, serving as a reminder about outdoor safety. Staying hydrated and seeking shade is essential for those who are outdoors for extended periods.

Humidity is forecasted to drop significantly until the latter part of the week. By the weekend’s end, afternoon relative humidity could decrease by 5-10%, leading to a drier environment than what’s been felt recently.

Overnight, humidity levels tend to increase, which can help maintain warmth and dryness at night, providing some comfort after sunset.

The winds are expected to remain normal for this time of year, with light morning breezes that may pick up into gusts in the afternoon. In Imperial Valley, localized gusts could reach up to 25 mph, though no significant wind events are anticipated.

So, that initial relief at the start of the week was fleeting, and residents should brace for even hotter and drier days ahead.

The return of intense sunshine and low humidity will characterize the weather across the region.

Stay cool, safe, and keep an eye on the latest local forecasts.
