At approximately 2:00 p.m. Monday (March 13), the Mojave County Sheriff’s Office informed a group of hikers that a 44-year-old woman had injured her ankle and was unable to bear weight and was unable to hike to the trailhead. I got a call saying it was no longer possible. She and her four other hikers (61-year-old female, 61-year-old male, 46-year-old female, 49-year-old male) have been hiking and camping with guides since Saturday (3/11). I was. Located in the Mount Nut Wilderness Area of the Black Mountains. They had previously gone on her one-day hike with a guide and enjoyed it so much that they wanted to do an overnight trip. When a hiker got injured, the guide left the group and returned to Oatman for help. Meanwhile, other members of her group while hiking called her 911. Search and Rescue responded to a remote wilderness area with Kingman’s DPS Western Air Rescue her helicopter. A DPS Ranger helicopter located them and assessed the situation. The helicopter then made a short run (using a longline rope) with the injured hiker and returned the other hikers to the command post. They brought plenty of supplies, but were running low on water and exhausted. The Oatman Fire Brigade met them at the command post and sent them back to their vehicles and RVs.
