Oft-injured Brooklyn Nets star Ben Simmons will miss the season again, the team announced Thursday.
Simmons will miss the rest of the season due to nerve damage in his back. He plans to explore treatment options and consult an impingement specialist.
“Simmons, along with his representatives and Nets medical personnel, is currently consulting with numerous experts to determine the course of action that will provide him with the best opportunity for long-term sustainable health.” We are in discussions,” the Nets wrote on Twitter Thursday.

Wow. We often joke about this in the sports world, but this must have come as a huge shock to Simmons. What was once a very promising career appears to be coming to an end.
The Philadelphia 76ers selected Simmons with the No. 1 overall pick in the 2016 NBA Draft, but he didn't play at all in his first year in the league and was sidelined for the entire season with a foot injury.
However, he bounced back the following year, playing in 81 of 82 games with Philadelphia and winning the league's Rookie of the Year award. He was named to the All-Star team in each of his next three seasons. However, his health seemed to be gradually deteriorating. He played in 79 games in the 2018-2019 season, but only 57 the following season and 58 the season after that. Then his back injuries started in 2021-2022, causing him to miss the entire season. He played in only 57 games in total from 2020 to 2021.
I feel bad for him, but I also feel bad for the Nets, who traded James Harden for Simmons. Yes, they also acquired two first-round picks for the current Clippers superstar, but still. Brooklyn did a lot for Simmons.
