Tucson drivers can expect a “year of many changes” as a four-mile stretch of the city's interstate gets a $171 million renovation, according to the Arizona Department of Transportation.
According to ADOT, the project will widen an approximately 4-mile section of I-10 between Ina and Ruthlauf roads from three to four lanes. The project is expected to be completed by the end of this year, in 2024, the ministry announced in a news release Thursday.
Early this year, crews will install “121 girders on nine new bridges” and concrete pave the reconstructed sections of the highway.
ADOT plans to keep three lanes of traffic and access to businesses clear through the work zone during the day.
“By late 2024, ADOT plans to move traffic onto the reconstructed highway with four lanes in each direction,” the release states. And by that time, the Orange Grove Road interchange will be reopened with “wider on/off ramps,” the department said.
