Iowa Principal Shot By School Shooter Succumbs To Injuries

On January 4, an Iowa high school principal was shot by a gunman inside the school and succumbed to his injuries.

Perry High School Principal Dan Marburger died Sunday from severe injuries sustained in the Iowa school shooting, Caldwell Parrish Funeral Home and Crematory confirmed. according to To the Associated Press.

The principal's daughter said on Facebook that Marburger underwent surgery after a confrontation with suspected gunman Dylan Butler, who tried to create a distraction to save other students.

“When I heard about the shooter, I immediately felt like my father was going to be the victim, putting himself in danger for the sake of the children and staff,” Claire Marburger, the principal's daughter, wrote. “I'm not at all surprised to hear that he approached Dylan and tried to reason with him and distract Dylan until some students came out of the cafeteria. That's just Dad.”

The day after the shooting, the state Department of Public Safety said Marburger “acted clearly selflessly and put himself in harm's way to protect students,” according to the newspaper.

The school principal's death was announced around 8 a.m. Sunday on a GoFundMe page for his family, which drew nearly 200 people to post their condolences, the report said.

“Dan lost the battle,” the GoFundMe page said, according to the Associated Press. “He fought hard and gave us 10 days that we will treasure forever.”
