The Internal Revenue Service (IRS) sent billing letters to millions of taxpayers and apologized after many had incorrect due dates, according to The Wall Street Journal.

“As the IRS continues to review the situation, we apologize to taxpayers and tax professionals for the confusion. No,” the IRS said.
According to the WSJ, taxpayers in most of California and other states affected by natural disasters, including Georgia and Alabama, will be given extra time to file their 2022 tax returns. It is said that Those who receive an extension must submit by October 16th. according to to the IRS website.

According to the WSJ, retired California Army officer Tom Lasser received notice that he must pay $5,122 by June 26. “It didn’t make sense,” he told the media outlet.
Taxpayers who do not pay by the written deadline risk the IRS taking action, including a tax lien, the WSJ reported.
The WSJ said some of the deadlines in the notice were accurate. One tax expert suggested withholding payments for those whose due dates weren’t accurate, while another suggested returning the letter to the IRS.
