Is it time for Nick Saban to run for Senate? Paul Finebaum believes Trump’s support could make it happen.

Since stepping down from his monumental coaching role with the Alabama Crimson Tide, Nick Saban has been quite busy. The last two years have seen him diving into everything from commercials to spending quality time with family. It’s a totally different life than he once knew.

The big question is—could he see himself in public service?

One prominent figure, at least, thinks he might actually excel there.

In a recent interview with AL.com, renowned ESPN and SEC network analyst Paul Finebaum—often regarded as the most influential voice in Southern sports—was asked if Saban should consider a Senate run. His response? A resounding yes.

“I think Coach Saban is a slam dunk,” Finebaum stated. “He could easily become one of the most recognizable and powerful figures in Congress, which would be a significant benefit for Alabama.”

Finebaum elaborated on the impact Saban could have, not just on Alabama but on collegiate sports as a whole during these uncertain times. “For college football, having the greatest coach ever representing the sport at crucial moments would be a massive advantage.”

On Thursday evening, Saban is expected to address attendees at the University of Alabama launch event featuring President Donald J. Trump.

Trump made waves last week with his announcement about graduating, but things got even more interesting when it was revealed Saban would also speak.

The ceremony will take place at Coleman Coliseum.

Finebaum mentioned that some political insiders are already working to encourage Saban to enter the race. “I know some folks in DC who aimed to do this in the past, but it never seemed right then. He was coaching, or Tuberville had plans to run again. But now? The timing might just be perfect.”

While it’s unclear if Saban is seriously contemplating a political career, there’s certainly a buzz in Alabama about the possibility of him pursuing a Senate seat.
