Last weekend in Decatur, a young woman was arrested for “disorderly conduct” while protesting in front of Mayor Tab Bowling's home.

The incident is the latest in a series of arrests made against protesters since the death of Stephen Perkins, and many area residents believe this was a deliberate attempt to quell the protests. He claims that it is an act.

Stephen Perkins died on Sept. 29 after a Decatur police officer shot him multiple times outside his home. Officer Mac Bailey Marquette was charged with murder in December in Perkins' death. Perkins' murder outraged many in the Decatur community, and protests continued for nearly five months.

Alaina Daley was arrested on February 9th during a protest as part of a “night watch”. Mr. Daley conducted his four-minute Facebook Live video depicting the minutes leading up to his arrest.

DPD has shown a pattern of arresting protesters and charging them with disorderly conduct, like Mr. Daley.

The arrests of demonstrators have been interpreted as an attempt to deter further protests.

APR has contacted the Decatur Police Department and Bowling's office for comment regarding Daley's arrest. In response, Bowling's office said the mayor would not comment. As for DPD, there has been no response as of this article's publication.
