Israel Increases Attacks on Gaza City

Israeli Forces Intensify Attack on Gaza

This past weekend, Israeli forces ramped up their offensive in Gaza, prompting a significant number of civilians to flee amid relentless air strikes and artillery bombardments.

This escalation coincides with an upcoming security cabinet meeting led by Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, where discussions are expected to revolve around plans to take control of specific areas within the city.

Residents from Sheikradwan, a major district in Gaza, shared with Reuters that Israeli tanks and aircraft have been attacking the region continuously since Saturday. “It’s right in the city center… They’re hitting from both air and ground, pushing people to flee,” remarked a local resident, Regik Sarah.

On Friday, Israeli forces designated the city as a “dangerous combat zone,” ending a brief cessation that had allowed limited aid deliveries in recent weeks.

According to Gaza Health Authorities, at least 30 individuals lost their lives on Sunday, including 13 near a central aid distribution point. The Israeli military claimed to be unaware of casualties occurring near these humanitarian sites.

Furthermore, Gaza authorities reported that another airstrike on a residential building in Gaza City killed 15 people, five of whom were children.

Netanyahu mentioned on Sunday that Israeli forces had targeted Abu Ubaida, a spokesperson for Hamas’ armed wing, asserting his death was confirmed by Israeli Minister of Defense Katz.

When contacted, Hamas officials declined to provide any comments regarding the situation.

As Netanyahu’s cabinet plans to convene on Sunday evening, decisions regarding the next steps in the offensive will be made. However, full-scale ground operations are not anticipated for at least a few weeks as Israel aims to evacuate civilians from the conflict zone beforehand.
