Political podcast host Meghan McCain on Friday criticized Vice President Kamala Harris, citing her late father, former Republican Arizona Sen. John McCain, in a recent speech.
Harris, Arizona campaigning claimed The late senator is said to have told supporters she would be a “great senator” after a heated committee hearing. On “Two Way Tonight,” McCain told host Mark Halperin that politicians often refer to their fathers, but he decided to share a story about how he doesn’t think Harris is “like a father.” “I wasn’t impressed,” he said.
“Everyone does it on both sides. I’m not thrilled about this, really, because I just found it, but maybe it happened. To me, it doesn’t seem like him. …The Democrats really want to turn my father into a progressive liberal. It’s been six years since his death, and now he’s one of the most conservative senators in the world. “It’s like being the most liberal progressive in modern American history,” McCain began.
“I think it’s because he’s still very popular in Arizona. Data and polls and studies done by polling organizations and the McCain Institute show that about 14% of Arizona Republicans identify McCain has shown that he considers himself a Republican,” McCain said. Said. “So I’m sure that’s what she’s going for. And these are people who are clearly not Trumpers.”
Mr. McCain implied that he did not think highly of Ms. Harris, adding that her frequent references to her late father had become “disrespectful.” (Related: New poll brings even more bad news for Harris weeks after election)
“I think it’s gotten to the point where it’s disrespectful that people are talking about him because there’s so much of it that it doesn’t sound like him. We were obviously incredibly close. , and I worked with him both professionally and was very close personally. But it’s difficult,” McCain said.
“I remember what he actually said about Vice President Harris in private,” McCain added. “Actually, I was remembering something he said at a particular dinner party, and I don’t want to be rude or uncouth in sharing it here, but it wasn’t really, and for me… It doesn’t seem real.”

Ms. Halperin then asked the political podcast host whether she thought Ms. Harris’ claims about what the late senator had told her were “consistent” with what her father believed.
“No, not at all. There’s one thing in particular. I remember very specifically what he said about her when I had dinner with him and other politicians. I repeat. But I don’t want to get into any kind of match with the Harris camp. I’m just glad he’s not a Democrat. He’s far from that, and her stance on Israel alone makes him sick. “I’ll let them do it,” McCain said.
Mr. McCain went on to point out how his father disagreed with him on the failed Afghanistan withdrawal, the economy and the border crisis, before questioning whether any interactions with Mr. Harris had actually taken place.
“Maybe that happened. Again, maybe it was, I didn’t always work with him, but I never heard of it before. ” McCain said. “She has never felt the need to share it before, except for 24 days before the Arizona election, and it was for focused purposes. In many other places, she aligns with independents.”
“So, I’m tired of it, but I also understand that politicians have to appeal to politicians in whatever way they can, wherever they can, and everyone is doing it, on both sides. It’s hilarious because some of the people who were the cruelest to him in life are making him a saint in death,” McCain added.
Polls in key battleground states show a close race between Harris and former President Donald Trump, with Trump currently leading by a narrow margin in Arizona. RealClear polling average Mr. Harris’ approval rating is 48.1%, and Mr. Harris’ approval rating is 47.6%, indicating that the former president has a 0.5 point lead.
