‘It Really Says A Lot’: Newt Gingrich Says Recent GOP Actions Signal Major Conservative Shift In Politics

Former House Speaker Newt Ginrich appeared on Fox Business on Friday and said the latest action by the GOP was a significant conservative change in American politics.

The House passed laws on Tuesday to fund government operations until the end of September, and despite previous opposition, Senate Democrat minority leader Chuck Schumer announced Thursday on the Senators’ floor that he would support a continuing resolution backed by GOP Trump. Ginrich said Senate majority leader John Tune, House Speaker Mike Johnson and President Donald Trump had practiced effective teamwork.

“New majority leader John Tune has worked very closely with President Johnson and President Trump, and it was a team of three who passed this particular, continuous resolution,” Gingrich said.

Ginrich said the change is noteworthy given the historical challenges Trump faced when working with both the Senate and House of Representatives during his first term. (Related: Details of DEM’s potential fallout that Britthume refuses to vote for bills to avoid government shutdown)

“The Democrats didn’t affect it. Over the past 20 years, it’s certainly the clearest resolution of the Republicans. And the fact that John Tune was able to work as a member of the team is really saying a lot because you’re right. In President Trump’s first term he had a much more difficult relationship with the Senate and the House. “The team is formed in a very encouraging way.”

The government has been partially shut since midnight on Friday, and is expected to help Schumer in moving forward with the GOP spending bill, preventing the government from shutting down.
