The Hudson River is scenic, but has long been a high-risk zone. The crash revives memories of previous tragedy, particularly the private plane crash in 2009, the tourist helicopter that killed nine people, and the 2018 East River Plunge, which claimed five while flying a charter.
It capsized on the Hudson River in 2022, killing a 7-year-old boy and a 48-year-old woman. Twelve people were thrown into the water, putting the boat’s captain in danger and wounding several others. A few days ago, an American Airlines jet and an Army helicopter collided in Washington. This is the country’s most deadly air disaster in decades.
The incident is under investigation by the National Traffic Safety Commission and the Federal Aviation Administration.
