Gov. Kay Ivey announced Tuesday that more than $40 million in state transportation funding has been set aside for 26 projects focused on improving Alabama's roads and bridges.

This funding was made possible through the Alabama Transportation Rehabilitation Improvement Program II (ATRIP-II), which was created by the Rebuilding Alabama Act.

The Rebuilding Alabama Act calls for ATRIP-II to be an annual program that sets aside at least $30 million from ALDOT's new gasoline tax revenue cap for projects of local interest on the state highway system. Masu.

Of the 26 awarded projects, 18 were from cities and counties, providing more than $18 million in local funding. The ATRIP-II program does not require local governments to establish matching funds to qualify.

All projects must be advanced within two years of funding award.

Since ATRP-II was established in 2019, the state has awarded more than $180 million in state transportation funds under ATRIP-II.

The Reconstruction Alabama Act infamously raised the state's gasoline and diesel taxes by 10 cents per gallon. This is the first tax increase of this kind since 1992.
