Ivey honors “Made in the USA” Day by recognizing Alabama manufacturers.

Governor Ivey Declares “Made in the USA” Day

On Wednesday, Governor Ivey signed a proclamation recognizing July 2, 2025, as “Made in the USA” day. This recognition celebrates Alabama’s manufacturing community and acknowledges its crucial impact on economic growth in the state.

“On this ‘Made in America’ day, we proudly honor the hardworking Alabamians who make our state a true manufacturing powerhouse,” said Governor Ivey. She noted that Alabama is among the top five states for employment-intensive manufacturing, attributing this to strong partnerships, innovative thinking, and a steadfast commitment to quality.

Manufacturing represents nearly 16% of Alabama’s GDP, exceeding $50 billion last year, according to data from the National Manufacturers Industry Group. The industry encompasses a diverse range of sectors, including automotive, aerospace, metals, and kitchenware, supporting over 290,000 jobs across the state.

Ivey emphasized her administration’s ongoing efforts to bolster this key sector, which comprises more than 4,000 companies statewide. “We are built for the future through workforce training programs and investments in infrastructure that create a pro-business environment, attracting top-notch businesses to Alabama,” she remarked. “These initiatives translate into new jobs, wage increases, and thriving communities.”

Alabama’s Department of Commerce Secretary Ellen McNair spoke to the strategic importance of manufacturing in achieving the state’s long-term economic development goals, echoing the governor’s sentiments.

“From cars and rockets to aircraft and steel, Alabama manufacturers produce goods that are shipped around the globe,” McNair shared. “This sector is dedicated to fostering innovation and opportunities while supporting sustainable success throughout our state.”

The Alabama Department of Commerce has been instrumental in advancing the state’s manufacturing sector through programs like the Catalyst Strategic Plan and the Alabama Development Fund, among other initiatives. Products made in Alabama are exported worldwide, with total exports reaching over $26.8 billion in 2024. The automobile sector leads the state’s exports, making Alabama the second-largest auto-exporting state in the U.S.

Manufacturing jobs in Alabama also offer competitive salaries. The National Association of Manufacturers reports that the average annual wage in this sector is over $85,000.

“Manufacturing remains the backbone of Alabama’s economy, driven by dedicated individuals who come to work every day to produce world-class products,” stated John Bergayner, Alabama’s president and CEO. He added, “Thanks to Governor Ivey’s leadership and the strength of our workforce, the industry continues to flourish and supports both urban and rural communities throughout the state. Manufacturers provide meaningful careers that sustain Alabama families and pave the way for a prosperous future.”
