This weekend saw a record turnout at the 2025 Annual Meeting in Orange Beach, with over 450 attendees from Alabama and the Southeast participating in the three-day event.
Chris Isaacson, the president and CEO of the Alabama Forestry Association, expressed satisfaction with the event’s success.
“This year’s annual meeting marked a significant milestone for the forest industry,” Isaacson noted. “We’re thrilled about our record membership and the diverse topics covered. The enthusiasm for innovation and collaboration among our members is evident.”
US Senator Tommy Tuberville, a Republican from Auburn, delivered the keynote address, addressing trade and tariff issues impacting the forestry sector.
“The forestry industry is crucial for Alabama’s economy, particularly in rural areas,” Tuberville remarked.
“Attending the AFA annual meeting was a privilege, allowing me to hear directly from industry leaders. Under President Trump, we’re dedicated to addressing the deficit and supporting Alabama’s foresters.”
Speaker of the Alabama House, Nathaniel Ledbetter, also spoke and moderated a panel featuring prominent figures including Caroline Doussa, owner of Rex Lumber; Glenn Nunziata, CEO of Enviva; and Doug Otto, interim director of the Alabama Port Authority.
“It was a privilege to engage with Alabama’s dedicated forestry professionals during this week’s AFA gathering,” Ledbetter said.
“With forestry generating $36 billion annually and providing over 55,000 jobs, we’re committed to partnering with this organization to safeguard and expand this vital industry.”
A highlight of the conference included the presentation of the 2025 AFA Congressman Award to state Senator Jack W. Williams from Wilmer.
This award recognizes legislators who embody AFA principles and advocate for the Capitol’s needs.
“Being recognized by the Alabama Forestry Association is a tremendous honor for me,” Williams stated. “This award ranks among the most meaningful acknowledgments I’ve received. The timber industry is vital to our state’s economy, and I’m devoted to its promotion and protection.”
The AFA Annual Meeting serves as a platform for forestry experts to discuss challenges, achievements, and opportunities, with the next meeting planned for September 13 to 15, 2026.
