On Monday, Alabama State Board of Education member Jackie Zeigler announced she is endorsing Carolyn Dobson in the Republican runoff election for Alabama's 2nd Congressional District on Tuesday, April 16th.
“Reckless policies from Washington, DC are corrupting education and putting a strain on Alabama students, and Carolyn Dobson is ready to fight,” Zeigler said. “We need a congresswoman who will fight for conservative change and Alabama values. Carolyn understands the role public education plays in children's lives, and in Congress she will ensure we educate, not indoctrinate, our kids.”
Dobson, a real estate attorney in Montgomery, grew up on a ranch near Beatrice. He divides his time between his law practice in Montgomery and his family's farm in Monroe County. He also serves on the Alabama Forestry Commission and the Southeast Livestock Exposition Commission.
Zeigler is a retired teacher, principal and administrator with 37 years of experience in Alabama public schools. Zeigler has served on the State Board of Education representing Baldwin, Escambia, Covington, Coffee, Connex, Crenshaw, Butler and parts of Mobile counties since 2016. She is the wife of former State Auditor Jim Zeigler.

“I am honored to have the endorsement of Jackie Zeigler, whose lifelong commitment to education overlaps with mine,” Dobson said. “Like Jackie, I believe in upholding Alabama values and fighting destructive, biased ideologies that impede the growth and development of our children,” Dobson said. “The role of education is to unlock students' potential, not destroy it on the altar of indoctrination. As a parent of two young children myself, I am committed to fighting to restore excellence to our educational institutions.”
Dobson has been endorsed by the Alabama Farmers Federation, the National Cattlemen's Association, the Alabama Forestry Association and the Republican sheriffs in the 2nd Congressional District.
Mr. Dobson earned his undergraduate degree from Harvard University and his law degree from Baylor Law School.
Dobson will face former state Sen. Dick Brewbaker (R-Montgomery) in Tuesday's runoff election.
On the Democratic side, former Assistant Secretary of the Army Shomali Figures is running against House Minority Leader Anthony Daniels, who will face off against the Republican candidate in the Nov. 5 general election.
Polls open at 7 a.m. Tuesday and close at 7 p.m. Voters must bring a valid photo ID to their polling place.
