Democratic strategist James Carville on Wednesday outlined the major failures he believes led to Vice President Kamala Harris’ loss to former President Donald Trump.
Trump won the election early Wednesday, thanks in part to increased support from Hispanics and black men. Carville,”James Carville explains” cited President Joe Biden’s withdrawal from the campaign in “late July,” Harris’ failure to distinguish herself from him, and a “feeling of confusion” as factors that sank her presidential candidacy. pointed out. “I think there were some big, big mistakes made and some things that went too far. First of all… we didn’t have any process in place for Biden to stay this late,” Carville said. he said. “All this virgin cordwood was set aside, okay? And what I mean is, really good, really good virgin stuff. You know, some kind of open process. It could have been better if it had been… It could have been worse, but it certainly could have been better.”
Despite virtually no approval from primary voters, Harris secured enough support from Democratic delegates to become the party’s nominee in July.
“She didn’t try to separate herself from Biden. But what killed the Democratic Party, and what killed Biden, was a sense of anarchy. And part of that sense of anarchy was what I call the woke era. “It was an unfortunate incident,” he added. “We got through it, but the image that stuck with people was that Democrats wanted to defund the police and empty the prisons. You know, immigration is clearly another big mistake. But more importantly, it created a perception of anarchy.”
“The withdrawal from Afghanistan, I think Mr. Biden was 100% right about the withdrawal, was chaotic. The inflation was an expression of people’s sense of confusion and no one was in charge,” Carville said. “And, you know, if we learn anything from this, it’s that change is what wins elections. Especially as people were pointing out, this country is 65% on the wrong path. And we were offering people the same path in a country where 65% of them are on the wrong path.”
The vice president told “The View” on Oct. 8 that he “couldn’t think of anything” when asked how he would govern differently than Biden.
“And while it may be easy to say in hindsight, there was no attention paid to the fundamentals of politics. And as you say, campaigns have never been able to answer that one question, except for one answer: money. “I didn’t just say that one question, but that one question defined the entire campaign,” the Democratic strategist argued. “And even if you answer 99 questions very well, if you get the big question wrong, the result will be wrong. And the reason it’s easy to say in retrospect is, Because a truism in American politics has turned out to be, well, a truism.”
Radio host Charlamagne Tha God on Wednesday argued that economic factors and security were the main drivers of Trump’s victory, challenging the idea that Trump won on bigotry alone. .
“I don’t think it’s fair to chalk up Trump’s victory solely to racism, sexism, homophobia, and anti-Semitism. Indeed, he was the worst that America has ever had to offer. “There are a lot of people who have used all of that and who agree with his rhetoric and voted for him for those reasons,” he said. “But I truly believe that most people voted for him because they wanted more money in their pockets and they wanted peace of mind.”
