James Edward Anderson Sr. Obituary

James Edward Anderson Sr., 77, of Somerville, South Carolina, entered eternal life on Monday, July 3, 2023 after complications from hip surgery.

Jim was born August 11, 1945 in Mansfield, Ohio to the late James Anderson and Viola B. (Hoffman) Anderson.

After graduating from Madison High School in 1963, Jim married his high school sweetheart, Mary J. Vangeloff. They were due to celebrate their 60th wedding anniversary in October this year.

Jim has worked for the United States Postal Service for 36 years. He served his last seven years as a postmaster in Savannah, Ohio, before retiring in 2001 and moving to Somerville, South Carolina.

Jim was a devoted Christian who loved the Lord and provided for his family. He was a very generous and kind man, a loving husband, father and grandfather. Jim was baptized and became a member of the Shenandoah Church of Christ. He was a former member of the Savannah Lions Club and the National Association of Postmasters.

Jim loved the ocean, boating, fishing and golf. He enjoyed riding motorcycles and bicycles, taking long walks, and reading the Bible daily. Jim was an avid sports fan, watching the Cleveland Browns, Indians and Ohio State every game. He enjoyed attending his children’s and grandchildren’s school functions and sporting events. He coached his Little League baseball in his Union Athletic League and Ashland County his Pony League while his son played in school.

In addition to his beloved wife Mary, Jim’s spirit lives on through his children Stacey Ann Anderson of Yuma, Arizona and James E. Anderson, Jr. (Fatilla Sengin) of Somerville, South Carolina, and grandchildren Jake Brady. ing. And Alex is all from the Charleston area. He is also survived by his sister Mary Lou Smith of Phoenix, Arizona, his longtime dear friend Bob Yetzer of Mansfield, Ohio, and his nephews, nieces and their families, and other extended family members. Jim will be sorely missed as he touched so many people’s lives so deeply.

A celebration of life will be held by the family around his birthday in August. Everyone who remembers Jim is asked to remember his life in their own way. …walking outside, reading Bible verses, talking about old times, working on crossword puzzles, watching westerns and classic movies, and remembering his favorite drink. It would be appropriate to put up in a glass.
