Texas Flood Tragedy: Rep. Jasmine Crockett Shares Response
On Monday, Texas Rep. Jasmine Crockett took to social media to express her deep sadness over the recent devastating flash floods in central Texas.
In her emotional post, she spoke about the personal toll it has taken on her and how she continues to navigate her role under the administration of President Trump. With the unfortunate death toll rising to 27 children after the floods, Crockett paused to mention her new haircut, perhaps in a bid to add a lighter note to the heavy discussion.
“My heart is really heavy for all of these families,” she remarked. “It’s overwhelming to think about survival in a government that seems to be actively against us.” The weight of her words carried a sense of urgency amid the tragedy.
While sharing, Crockett couldn’t help but mention her haircut, even jokingly noting the comments her staff made about her new bob. “Thank you for adjusting the appearance,” she added, complete with a playful emoji.
In another part of her message, she expressed frustration over how lawmakers appear to support Trump and the Supreme Court while the crisis unfolds.
As Crockett focused on her haircut, the number of fatalities continued to climb, hitting at least 111, while over 170 people remained unaccounted for. The floodwaters had swept away numerous cabins that were filled with campers over the July 4th weekend.
The Guadalupe River surged dramatically, rising 26 feet within just 45 minutes around 4 a.m. on Friday morning, catching many residents off guard while they slept. At Camp Mystic, an all-girls Christian camp, the youngest campers were alarmingly close to the rising waters.
Currently, ten campers and one counselor are still missing, alongside 27 children who tragically lost their lives at Camp Mystic. Among the deceased were eight-year-old Sarah Marsh and 19-year-old counselor Chloe Childress, who was remembered fondly by her family for her vibrant spirit and faith.
In response to the calamity, President Trump issued a disaster declaration seeking federal assistance for recovery efforts in the affected area. He, along with First Lady Melania Trump, is set to visit the region to witness the aftermath firsthand.
