This week, Oregon officials announced that the state had made a big mistake. Oregon automatically registered 1,259 non-citizens as voters. Last week, Arizona election officials realized they had overlooked a software “coding oversight” for years that allowed about 100,000 people to vote without providing proof of citizenship.
If you're wondering why this happens, you're not alone. After all, the Democratic Party and most mainstream media outlets have been claiming for weeks that non-citizens cannot and will not register or vote in American elections. These news articles gave the lie to these claims. These claims were propagated specifically with the aim of defeating a parliamentary bill banning non-referendum votes.
The bill is Conservation methodis intended to correct a problem in federal law that allows noncitizens to illegally register and vote in federal elections. Speaker Mike Johnson tried to pass the bill alongside the spending bill, sparking a torrent of liberal and media misinformation that Republicans were putting the bill at risk of a government shutdown. “It makes it harder to vote.” (Related: Jason Sneed: There's a way to stop non-citizens from voting, and Democrats are fighting it)
That is an absurd claim even by today's standards. of Conservation method It would simply require states to verify citizenship before allowing people to register and vote in federal elections. To register, citizens can use the same photo ID they use every day to drive, buy beer, and fly. Other records will also work, such as naturalization documents or birth certificates. And there is protection for citizens who have none of these. The only people who will find it difficult to vote under the SAVE Act are those who shouldn't be voting at all.
Only progressives can find controversy there. Rest of America – almost 90% of the population – deny voting to non-citizens. However, the Democratic Party's opposition to the bill did not stop. When the U.S. House of Representatives passed the SAVE Act earlier this year, just 5 Democrats Voted yes. This time, there is a possibility that the opposition will get a unanimous vote.
Democrats argue that voting by noncitizens is already illegal. it's true. However, it is against the law for anyone to enter the country illegally, and this practice continues. millions of In recent years, people including criminals, rapists and drug traffickers have been unable to cross the southern border.
Laws only work if they are enforced, and the left has done everything in their power to prevent them from being enforced. Liberal lawyers have used the courts to twist federal law to limit states to simply requiring voters to check a box confirming they are citizens before they can register. When the state takes action, left-wing groups sue. For example, people in Arizona fight After liberals filed a lawsuit, they went all the way to the U.S. Supreme Court to defend the citizenship law's credentials.
Liberals also claim that non-citizens will never vote, although there are countless documented instances of non-citizens registering to vote across the country. this year, ohio Secretary of State Frank LaRose confirmed there are about 600 non-citizens on the state's voter rolls, 138 of whom are believed to have voted. Since 2022, Virginia Governor Glenn Youngkin's administration has deleted More than 6,000 noncitizens from the state's voter rolls. In Texas, the problem is just as severe. texas Gov. Greg Abbott reported that he had eliminated “more than 6,500 potential noncitizens,” including more than 1,900 people who were registered voters.
Clearly, the left knows there will be a non-referendum. For proof of this, look back at the past. When created by Congressional Democrats HR1their signature bill In order to stage a partisan takeover of the election, a provision was included granting amnesty to non-citizens who voted illegally. Fortunately for our republic, HR1 did not pass, but Democrats on Capitol Hill have already made it a top priority for next year if Vice President Kamala Harris is elected president. I'm doing it. (Related: Jason Sneed: Election reform is a marathon, not a sprint)
Turning a blind eye to illegal voting is bad enough. What's worse is that liberal politicians in places like Washington DC and New York are actively promoting unpopular votes. As more cities succumb to leftist movements and allow noncitizens to vote in local elections, the risk that some noncitizens will slip through the cracks and be given federal ballots increases. Additionally, there is a possibility that the information may be registered incorrectly due to clerical errors. Refusing to address these issues is not only an invitation to fraud, but also a trap for the unwary. If an unsuspecting non-citizen votes illegally, he or she has committed a federal crime and can be deported.
Across the country, Democrats are fighting to make it easier for foreigners to register and vote. Today's left foot is also a new low. American elections should be decided by American voters.
