JASON SNEAD: Virginia Is No Place For Crazy Voting Experiments

On Tuesday, the Ranked Vote (RCV) reached even the outskirts of the capital.

In Arlington, Virginia, Democrats used this new system for county primaries. Tally started as early as possible on Friday.

At RCV, it’s the new standard. A well-funded campaign is underway aimed at persuading voters to radically change the election. But even the Washington Post called Arlington’s election experiment was “troublesome” and “confusing,” he said with concern, adding that “not many people understand how it works.”

Spoiler: That goes for all RCV elections. (Related: David Bothy: Ranked voting is another way elites can turn the system in their favor)

RCV inherently makes voting very difficult and complicated. Voters are asked to rank their favorite candidates in order of priority from first to last.

In current elections, whoever gets the most votes wins. But RCV uses an algorithm to calculate the winner.

If no candidate receives more than 50% of the #1 votes, the lowest-performing candidate is eliminated, and that candidate’s votes are redistributed based on each voter’s #2 nomination. This roulette wheel process continues until a candidate wins her 50% or more of the remaining votes.

Messed up? Things got even worse in Arlington.

When the Arlington Democratic primary for the county commission used the RCV for the first time, voters were asked to rank three of the six candidates to fill the two vacant seats. The processes and calculations for filling multiple seats are very complex, even elections Expert It was difficult to track.

Arlington NAACP President Mike Hemminger said the introduction of the RCV has raised a “significant set of concerns from the community” and the organization will work to ensure “no one is deprived or hindered of their basic voting rights.” said it was required.

Virginia Democrats not only amended the law to allow RCV in certain elections, but they also chose to accept up to three days of delayed voting. This is a big problem because we can’t start counting the RCVs until we have received all the ballots, as each vote can make a big difference to the outcome of the election.

Imagine this nightmare happening on a national scale. Almost every election is followed by endless recounts, lawsuits and legal appeals.

RCV has many flaws. A process of elimination based on RCV can easily cause the leading candidate to lose the election. Republican Congressman Bruce Polikin was defeated in Maine’s first RCV election despite having the most first-place votes.

RCV allows you to discard votes during the exclusion process. Ballots deemed exhausted are discarded at each round elimination.

As each qualifying round advances, fewer and fewer “voters” are involved in the process. 140,000 votes were lost in New York City’s 2021 Democratic mayoral primary. Alaska lost 11,000 votes in the 2022 special legislative election.

Last year in Oakland, Calif., there was a miscalculation that led to the wrong winner being named. If I counted correctly, whoever came third was actually the winner and had to sue to get a seat on the school board.

Why is Arlington and other regions using this system? National coordinated promotion With the backing of the left’s largest black money financiers and a wealth of special interest groups, including the Arabella Advisors Network, George Soros, and others, RCV has been adopted.

Whether it’s the endless left-wing lawsuits to rewrite state voting laws, it’s the same networks that support other left-wing attempts to distort votes for partisan gain. United States Electoral Excellence Alliance A behind-the-scenes effort to get left-wing politics into the election office. These networks are Hansjorg WissForeign billionaires spending hundreds of millions of dollars to influence American politics and elections.

RCV proponents often focus on allowing “local options,” as in Virginia, before pushing for statewide RCV implementation. And if Congress refuses to do so, then out-of-state left-wing black money will flow in to push the ballot measure instead.

The ultimate goal of RCV is exclusion Conduct party primaries and upend the entire democratic process. By undermining political parties, the RCV has created a power vacuum that Arabella and Soros are poised to fill. They have the funds, resources and infrastructure to do it.

In other words, the left-wing elite is pushing politics to the left and buying a new electoral system that makes our system more sensitive to them and not to voters. And it’s all part of the left’s ongoing effort to reframe the vote itself for partisan interests.

There’s a better way, a really better way for voters and for elections. Ban Rank selection vote.

Three states have passed bans this year, in addition to Florida and Tennessee. Americans just want voting easy and cheating hard. The Arlington election shows that RCV will only make voting harder, more complicated, and more room for litigation.
