Jay Mitchell, ex-Alabama Supreme Court Justice, declares candidacy for Attorney General – ‘Truthful. Resilient. Ethical.’

Jay Mitchell Launches Campaign for Alabama Attorney General

Former Alabama Supreme Court Judge Jay Mitchell has officially kicked off his campaign for the Attorney General position, announcing his candidacy on Monday morning.

Mitchell resigned from the Alabama Supreme Court after serving for over eight years in order to run for top law enforcement officer in the upcoming 2026 Alabama Republican primary.

With a background as both a judge and a lawyer, he aims to “fight for the people of Alabama” as a dedicated Alabamian and committed conservative, strongly aligned with President Trump and the populist agenda.

“We have a unique opportunity to win a conservative victory here in Alabama with President Trump in the White House,” Mitchell stated. “I am ready to work as Attorney General to curb lawlessness, restore order, and dismantle Joe Biden’s progressive policies.”

Mitchell also shared a one-minute video ad to mark the launch of his campaign.

Renowned for his conservative rulings while on the Alabama Supreme Court and his tough stance on crime, he is excited about the prospect of playing a significant role in advancing Trump’s agenda as the state’s Attorney General.

“This isn’t just my race. It’s our fight for Alabama’s future. I will stand up to the radical left, push forward on the Trump agenda, and relentlessly fight for our nation,” he said.

According to his newly launched campaign website, Mitchell has committed to taking a tough approach against violent crime, enforcing immigration laws, upholding the sanctity of life, and challenging progressive agendas.

Mitchell has also set up social media accounts on various platforms to connect with supporters.

In the race for the 2026 Attorney General, other candidates include Katherine Robertson, currently with AG Steve Marshall, and Pamela Casey, the existing District Attorney for Brandt County. While Casey has already launched her campaign, Robertson is expected to announce her candidacy at a June 10th event in Birmingham. Additionally, there are rumors about other potential candidates, including someone from the Justice Department, though they may not run.

As reported, Mitchell’s campaign account currently holds $654,304.40 in cash, providing him with a solid financial foundation for his AG run in the 2026 election.

The financial report is due at the end of January, with details expected to be revealed in Mitchell’s first monthly update to his newly established Attorney General Principal Campaign Committee.

The primary election in Alabama is scheduled for May 19, 2026.
