JB Pritzker Avoids 2028 Inquiry While Campaigning for Third Term as Governor

Illinois Governor JB Pritzker Dodges 2028 Presidential Speculation

During a recent interview, Illinois Governor JB Pritzker sidestepped inquiries regarding speculation about a potential 2028 presidential run. Appearing on CBS News’ “Face the Nation,” he emphasized that he isn’t currently focused on that distant prospect. Instead, Pritzker mentioned his intention to seek reelection in 2026.

“I’m not thinking about it—it’s too far away,” he remarked when asked about the 2028 Democratic presidential candidacy, urging a focus on the upcoming 2026 election. Pritzker reiterated, “I’m running for reelection.”

When probed about his commitment to serving a full term if reelected in 2026, he acknowledged his dedication to Illinois, yet added, “I don’t know what the future holds.”

“I’ve been in office for six and a half years now,” Pritzker stated. “I’m fully committed to Illinois, and I always will be. My focus is on making sure the people of Illinois are taken care of, especially with the challenges we face from leadership in the White House.”

In late June, Pritzker announced his candidacy for a third term as governor of Illinois. His profile has been elevated this year amid whispers about potential presidential aspirations.

When asked again about his plans for 2028, Pritzker reaffirmed that his current focus is on reelection. He mentioned a strong lineup of Democratic leaders who could represent the party effectively. “I see a lot of great talent among the Democrats,” he said. “There are plenty of strong candidates, and we should consider all those options while keeping in mind what Americans truly want.”

In closing, Pritzker remarked, “We have an excellent group within the Democratic Party who could step up to become the next president.” His comments reflect both an awareness of the future and a grounding in his present responsibilities.
