JD Vance Responds to ABC Host’s Focus on ‘Odd Left-Wing Perspective’ During Government Shutdown

Vance Critiques Stephanopoulos on ABC’s “This Week”

Vice President J.D. Vance spoke out on Sunday, expressing strong criticism towards ABC host George Stephanopoulos for focusing on what he termed “bullshit” instead of important issues facing Americans. During the program “This Week,” Stephanopoulos pressed Vance on whether border czar Tom Homan had received a cash payment of $50,000 from an FBI agent in 2024. Vance bluntly told Stephanopoulos that many Americans doubt his reporting due to its tendency to highlight left-leaning topics rather than pressing matters like a potential government shutdown.

“George, why do fewer people tune into your show? Why are you losing credibility?” Vance questioned. “You’ve spent five minutes talking to the Vice President of the United States about this Homan story, which, let’s be honest, is pretty trivial right now. Meanwhile, there are real issues at stake, like low-income families struggling to get food because the government is shut down.” He continued, arguing that while the government is facing funding issues, Stephanopoulos is fixated on a story he feels is misleading.

Vance insisted, “You are insinuating criminal activity against someone who hasn’t done anything wrong. Instead, let’s discuss how our country is suffering due to the shutdown.” He emphasized that the American public would benefit more from addressing substantial issues rather than getting caught up in, as he put it, a “bizarre left-wing rabbit hole.”

Stephanopoulos, however, rejected Vance’s accusations, claiming the Vice President was avoiding questions. At one point, as Vance was responding, Stephanopoulos abruptly ended the interview.

Following the exchange, Vance took to social media, asserting that Stephanopoulos was failing to address significant topics. “Is there peace in the Middle East? Is China threatening critical supply chains? Government shutdown? George doesn’t seem to care about those. He’s focusing on this fake scandal regarding Tom Homan,” Vance wrote.

The context of the government shutdown stems from a standoff over ongoing demands from Democrats for extensions on subsidies tied to the Affordable Care Act during negotiations for a funding bill. House Speaker Mike Johnson has stated that Congress can revisit discussions on those subsidies after passing a continuing resolution to fund the government.

In other news, Israel and Hamas have come forward with an agreement on the first phase of a proposed peace deal, which includes the release of all hostages and the withdrawal of Israeli troops from specified positions in the Gaza Strip.
