On Thursday, Homewood City Council member Jennifer Andres formally announced her candidacy for mayor as the city prepares for local elections scheduled for August 26th.
Andres highlighted her campaign’s foundation, which she claims is rooted in her energy, experience, and a strong personal commitment to the community she has served for nearly ten years.
“Homewood is entering a new phase,” Andres expressed. “I’m ready to take on this challenge! With significant decisions on the horizon and a new governmental structure forming, we require steady leadership, practical experience, and someone prepared to hit the ground running.”
Andres, currently in her second term on the council, shared her announcement early Thursday morning. She reiterated her dedication to leading as the city transitions to a mayoral system.

“Leadership extends beyond city limits,” she stated. “We have accomplished much by collaborating with our neighbors, and I will carry that spirit of partnership into the mayor’s office.”
Apart from her council role, Andres also serves as the Foreign Affairs Director at Freshwater Land Trust, where she oversees initiatives to enhance trail systems, preserve natural areas, and foster community connections.
Her campaign will prioritize enhancing public safety, supporting Homewood’s recognized schools, safeguarding parks and neighborhoods, and ensuring transparent leadership that resonates with residents. Should Jennifer Andres be elected, she would make history as Homewood’s first female mayor.
“I’ve engaged in meetings, explored trails, and connected with neighborhoods,” Andres stated.
“This isn’t just politics; it’s about community service. I possess the experience, energy, and commitment to propel Homewood forward into its next chapter. This represents a new approach to the mayoral position, truly deserving of our community’s support.”
