Since taking the oath of office six weeks ago, President Trump has moved so quickly to put his stamp on government policies that he could be forgiven for missing out on the action that was taken.
Don’t worry – in a speech to the Congressional session on Tuesday evening, he was opened with a brief summary – and what was it. (Related: Rep. Ralph Norman: Trump gives America a much-needed shot of optimism)
As Trump said of his actions as he took office — nearly 100 executive orders have been signed and more than 400 enforcement actions have been taken — he showed how important the choices Americans make every four years are. In just 43 days, he reminded us, he issued an executive order declaring a national emergency at our southern border. We deployed US troops and border patrols to end our country’s invasion. Freezes all federal employment, all new federal regulations, and all foreign aid. Finished what he called “a stupid ‘new green scam.” It has withdrawn from the Paris Climate Agreement, the World Health Organization and the United Nations Human Rights Council. Former President Biden has ended environmental restrictions. For all new regulations, it directed that 10 old regulations should be eliminated first.
And that was at the top of the speech.
Trump spoke for 99 minutes and broke Bill Clinton’s record for the longest presidential speech in a congressional joint session, but he made the audience even more hungry.
For example: Early applause provoked the campaign trail. “The Democratic media and our friends were saying that new laws were needed to secure the border,” Trump said. “But it turned out to be everything we really needed… the new president.”
It handles a very loud response from the Republican side of the aisle (and certainly from the majority of the viewers of the home).
In fact, the Republican side of the aisle received good cardio on Tuesday evening, with members of Congress regularly standing up.
In contrast, the Democrats on the aisle sat in a stony face and in a slump, even through the introduction of a special guest on Trump. A 13-year-old brain cancer survivor who wanted to become a police officer became a 13-year-old brain cancer survivor, and in his speech he became a secret agency “agent.” Points were given by Trump on the spot. Even Trump’s political opponents as California’s newest US Senator, Adam Schiff, could all sit in his hands and maintain a straight, trembling stone face, and it was surprising that the rest of the rooms were thrilled for those guests.
The political theatre was also amazing. Trump may reveal himself as one of our biggest presidents because of his deep understanding of the television medium and how he will use it for his political advantages.
Young and dashing John F. Kennedy is said to have been the first president to master the television media. Trump’s understanding of medium is Kennedy’s diet. Trump’s mastery of medium is so great that he used Kennedy in the cabinet (the nephew of the murdered president, no less!) and scored points with a jab at his enemy.
Perhaps my favorite line of the night was when President Trump said: I’m going to balance it out. ”
The Tea Party movement has been working for a balanced budget since its launch 16 years ago.
Thanks to government efficiency efforts, there are all kinds of wasted spending (“$22 billion from HHS to provide free housing and automobiles for illegal aliens”, “$45 million for Burma’s diversity, equity and inclusion scholarships”, “$40 million”.
This was easily the best of five states of union-type speech Trump gave to Congress. His delivery was disciplined. His tone of voice pays homage to the whole when asked and to the whole. His texts were organized, and the choice of guests to explain the bigger points he wanted to make would have envious Mike Deeber, the inventor of Skutnik.
Of course, the task of providing speeches like this can be easier if there is so much good news to report. Whether they are talking about the success of shutting down illegal alien streams across borders (to the historic lows in the first month), or unleashing the US economy by removing the associated band of regulatory burdens, they have ultimately robbed the bureau of the bureau of the established Blairces through government efficiency.
“Energy of energy is the protagonist of the definition of a good government,” writes Alexander Hamilton in Federalist 70. By Hamilton’s standards, Trump’s government is good – very good.
