Jerome Man Sentenced for Assault on a Forest Service Law Enforcement Officer | USAO-AZ

PHOENIX, Arizona – Jonathan Kip Medford, 34, of Jerome, Arizona, was sentenced Monday by U.S. District Judge Stephen P. Logan to 27 months in prison, followed by three years of supervised release. . Medford had previously pleaded guilty to bodily injury to federal law enforcement officers and bodily injury.

On February 15, 2022, Medford assaulted USDA Forest Service law enforcement officers as they stopped by Coconino National Forest. Officers were investigating minor traffic violations and illegal camping violations. Medford, who was wanted on a state warrant, lied about his name during the encounter, but disobeyed the officers’ instructions when they tried to restrain him.
