Jerry Carl declares his intention to run again for Alabama’s 1st Congressional District.

Jerry Carl Announces Return for Congressional Nomination

Former Mobile Senator Jerry Carl declared on Monday that he intends to run as a Republican nominee in the 2026 primary for Alabama’s First Congressional District.

Speaking at Foley City Hall, Carl mentioned that his decision stemmed from “prayer, reflection, and heartfelt discussions with family and friends.”

Carl, who was first elected in 2020, has developed a reputation in Congress centered on infrastructure, economic development, veteran services, and a robust backing of the oil and gas sectors. He emphasized that his priorities aligned closely with those of President Donald Trump.

“This decision is anchored in a profound commitment to faith, family, and service, mirroring the shared desire of the district to further President Trump’s ‘America First’ agenda while fostering integrity and accountability in Washington,” Carl explained.

He has vowed to prioritize border security, cut unnecessary spending, and defend constitutional rights.

“From the Gulf Coast to Wiregrass, Alabama’s First District embodies our shared values in South Alabama, blending unique geography and industry with our dedication to preserving America’s aspirations for future generations,” Carl added.

Carl previously served two terms in Congress before being defeated in 2024 by Rep. Barry Moore, who was placed in the same district as two incumbents. Moore has since announced that he won’t seek reelection and is instead pursuing a Senate position, leaving his seat open for 2026.

“Serving Alabama’s First Congressional District in Washington was a once-in-a-lifetime honor, and I’m thrilled to return to Congress to continue the fight alongside President Trump,” Carl expressed.

The Republican primary election is set for May 26, 2026. The district encompasses much of Mobile, Baldwin, and South Alabama, notably featuring a strong Republican partisan voting index of R+27. The winner of the GOP primary is expected to have significant support in the general election in November.
