Jerry Carl seeks to reclaim Alabama’s 1st Congressional District.

Former Representative Jerry Carl Announces Congressional Bid

Jerry Carl, a former U.S. Representative, has declared his intention to run for Alabama’s First Congressional District.

Having first won the seat in 2020 and successfully re-elected in 2022, Carl, who previously served as a Mobile County Commissioner, shared his announcement through social media during an event held at Foley Town Hall.

“After taking time for prayer, reflection, and meaningful conversations with my family and friends, I am excited to announce my candidacy in the Republican primary for Alabama’s first Congressional district,” Carl stated. He emphasized that this decision springs from a strong commitment to faith, family, and serving the community. “It’s all about aligning with our district’s desire to advance President Trump’s agenda while ensuring integrity and accountability in Washington.”

He continued, “As your representative, I will persist in safeguarding our borders, curtailing unnecessary spending, and addressing threats to our constitutional rights.”

Carl highlighted the unique geography and industries of District 1, which encompasses nine counties—including Baldwin and Mobile—linking them through shared values and a commitment to preserving America’s aspirations for future generations. He expressed enthusiasm for the possibility of returning to Congress, stating, “Serving this district is a lifelong honor, and I’m eager to continue the fight alongside President Trump.”

In the previous election cycle, Carl lost his seat to Rep. Barry Moore in the 2024 Republican primary, when Alabama redistricted lines forced both Republicans to compete against each other. Moore has recently announced plans to run for the U.S. Senate, which creates an opportunity for Carl’s return to Congress.

There’s also anticipation around State Senator Lett Marquez, who is expected to declare his candidacy as a Republican. The primary election is scheduled for May 19, 2026, followed by the general election on November 3, 2026.
