‘Jesus Saves’: Alabama community grieves for teen football player whose faith remains strong

The Sardis community is grieving the loss of 15-year-old Branson Peppers, a sophomore at Sardis High School, who tragically died in an ATV accident on Saturday, September 13th. Peppers, who played as a receiver and safety for the Sardis Lions, collided with another vehicle while riding his four-wheeler around 2 PM.

In a Facebook update on his community page, longtime broadcaster Rick Karle shared thoughts from Peppers’ mother, Nicole Blanchard. She reflected on her son’s faith, mentioning he committed to God at just six years old and made sure to express his beliefs both on and off the soccer field—his uniform even bore the message “Jesus will save.”

Nicole also recalled a memorable night at Sardis High Football Stadium when Branson handed her roses while friends and neighbors prayed and released balloons into the night.

Nicole shared with ABC 33/40 that Branson’s dedication to his faith had been particularly evident in recent weeks. She often found him with his Bible open next to him in bed, a sign that he was seeking a deeper connection with the Lord and preparing for eternity.

Branson’s father, Jason Peppers, described his son as a constant source of positivity, always uplifting and remaining himself regardless of the circumstances.

Coach BJ Brooks stressed the importance of keeping Branson’s spirit alive, advocating for a continuous message of faith. He believes it’s vital that Branson’s influence endures as an example for others.

Friend and classmate Cadence Wilson remarked on Branson’s influence, noting that he always emphasized the importance of faith and encouraged her to be a better, more respectful person.

Jason also mentioned to ABC 33/40 that a prayer meeting at Boaz High School, which typically attracts about 20 students, has now grown to over 200 attendees since Branson’s passing. This resulted in 20 young individuals making commitments to their faith as a direct consequence.

In response to their loss, the Sardis community is coming together to provide support. PeaceFulfulDepartures.com has initiated a meal train to help Branson’s family with meals and donations. Neighbors and friends remember him as someone who radiated positivity and uplifted everyone around him.

The junior varsity football game at Sardis was canceled following the incident, but the varsity team plans to honor Branson’s memory during their game on Friday night.

Despite the heartbreak, Jason Peppers finds solace in knowing how many lives his son touched. He expressed gratitude, saying he looks forward to seeing Branson again one day, recognizing the impact his brief life made.

Though Branson Peppers’ life was sadly cut short, his faith-driven message—”Jesus Saves”—continues to inspire the Sardis community in profound ways.
