It seems like a familiar face might be making a return to coaching. The Texas A&M Aggies, after a big shift that included parting ways with Jimbo Fisher and hiring Mike Elko, have shown some improvement thanks to high-level recruiting over the past year. Yet, it appears Fisher is interested in another opportunity.
In a recent interview with *Trial and Victory*, along with Freddie Stevenson, Fisher reflected on his past coaching experiences and expressed a desire to return to the sidelines, despite enjoying extra family time. “I loved my time with my family, but I always tried to involve them,” he shared. “I used to take the kids to practice; they were part of the team.” Fisher, who is still only 59 and feeling healthy, mentioned, “If the right situation comes along, I’d consider it. I still love the game.”
He also pointed out that coaching never felt like a job to him, noting a successful track record where he won 80% of playoff games and 72% overall, including a National Championship as a head coach. When he was let go, Fisher had a massive $76 million buyout deal, guaranteeing him $7.2 million annually through 2031. With such security, it’s understandable that he might prefer cherishing time with his loved ones for now.
However, coaching isn’t just a regular job, and while Fisher may have enjoyed his time away, the urge to return can become hard to shake. Although he won’t likely jump back in this season, he’s certainly a name to watch in future coaching hires.
