Joe Scarborough Says ‘They Can Get Somebody Else To Host The Show’ If MSNBC Tries To Replace Them Again With Newsfeed

“Morning Joe” host Joe Scarborough criticized MSNBC early Tuesday for pulling the show from the air Monday morning, less than 48 hours after the assassination attempt on former President Donald Trump.

Scarborough was referring to MSNBC's decision to replace his usual “Morning Joe” show with the 7 a.m. slot, in apparent frustration with his employer, the network.

The host claimed that the network had informed him that “one news feed” would be broadcast across all NBC News channels, but “that never happened.”

“Willie, before we start this hour, I just want to take a moment to talk to our friends and viewers who watch our show every day, and to talk about what happened yesterday,” Scarborough said on Tuesday. “We were told very clearly on Sunday evening that yesterday there would be one news feed across the entire NBC News Channel — the Today Show, Lester Holt and, Willie, the other people that you worked with on Sunday — and that it would be one news feed across the entire NBC News Channel. We were going to be in breaking news mode as a network all day yesterday, and that did not happen.”

“I don't know why it didn't happen,” he continued. “Our team didn't get a clear answer as to why it didn't happen, but it didn't happen. We were also told throughout the day that it was going to happen. And then after the intense backlash yesterday morning, I guess they changed their plans. And those plans changed.”

Scarborough said he brought up the morning show on Tuesday, which didn't air on Monday, because “we'll say anything on air.”

On Monday, MSNBC host Ana Cabrera hosted MSNBC's 6 a.m. show, with NBC News Now hosts Joe Fryer and Savannah Sellers taking over at 7 a.m. as the Republican National Convention (RNC) got underway in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. “We were very surprised. We were very disappointed. And if we had known that the news feed from NBC News wasn't going to be one across all the NBC News channels, Willie, we obviously would have aired it yesterday morning,” Scarborough said.

“Morning Joe” co-host Willow Geist said Monday morning that she was “ready to go” because she was “told that there was going to be another show coming up.”

“I wish you'd been here yesterday,” Geist added.

Scarborough said he “wants to find out exactly why” this happened. He interrupted co-host Mika Brzezinski when she tried to change the subject, saying that the next time breaking news occurs during his show, MSNBC should air “Morning Joe” or “ask someone else to host it.”

“We all wish we could have been here yesterday,” Scarborough said, “and we still want to know exactly why that news feed wasn't there.”

“I think that's why, 17 years after this show began, it continues to be a place where we can have difficult conversations in a civil way. And that's why we feel, more than ever, that now is the day and the time that we want to be here, and we think our viewers would agree. So, we'll continue,” Brzezinski said, preparing to move on to the next segment. “Well, we're five minutes into the hour.”

“And I wanted to say,” Scarborough interjected, “the next time they tell us that News Feed is going to replace us, we'll be sitting on our chairs.”

“We're going to sit here!” Brzezinski exclaimed with a laugh.

“We could run the news feed or we could have someone else host the show,” Scarborough said.

Trump was shot in the right ear on Saturday at a campaign rally in Butler, Pennsylvania. MSNBC changed its “Morning Joe” show on Monday over concerns that guests might make inappropriate comments about the attack, according to CNN, which cited anonymous sources.

An MSNBC spokesman denied a CNN report that the network made the decision because it was concerned that guests contacted by the Daily Caller News Foundation might make inappropriate comments.
