Speculation Grows Around Tuberville’s Potential Gubernatorial Run
John Wahl, the Alabama Republican Chairman, thinks that U.S. Senator Tommy Tuberville (R-Auburn) is gearing up for a run for governor and has a strong chance of winning.
While Tuberville hasn’t officially declared his candidacy, recent discussions suggest he might do so soon, indicating a firm commitment to the race.
Wahl shared his insights while appearing on WVNN’s “Yafie Program” last Friday.
“I think Tuberville definitely wants to go back to Alabama,” Wahl mentioned. “He has his first grandson. I mean, who could blame him? D.C. can be overwhelming, and he really has a passion for Alabama and its people.”
There’s also chatter about President Donald Trump delivering his opening speech at the University of Alabama this year.
However, Wahl doubts that was Trump’s primary motivation for agreeing to the engagement.
“No, I don’t think it’s ironic timing or anything,” he reflected. “Trump has consistently focused on reaching out to regular folks. I saw that during his campaign and his time in office. He’s been keen on participating in various events across the country, and it seems he chose the University of Alabama to highlight something meaningful to him.”
Wahl touched on the criticism Tuberville might face during his potential gubernatorial campaign.
“Of course, he’ll have his detractors,” he asserted. “I haven’t met a strong, true conservative yet who hasn’t faced some challenges. Honestly, if the media isn’t attacking you as a Republican, you might not be doing your job well.”
He expressed confidence in Tuberville’s chances if he enters the race.
“I can’t picture anyone else beating him,” he explained. “If he runs, he’ll likely win. Competing with his name recognition and his track record will be tough for others. He’s close to Trump, and he’s fought hard for conservative principles in Alabama.”
“In this era, voters seem to appreciate candidates with a proven record—those who dare to stand up against political norms. Tuberville brings that dynamic to the table,” he added.
