Johni Broome named Auburn male student athlete of the year

Auburn University recognizes student-athletes each year with a unique awards ceremony called the AUSPY Awards, held at the Gogue Performing Arts Center.

This year's 14th annual AUSPY Awards saw basketball star Joni Bloom named Auburn University's Male Student-Athlete of the Year.

Bloom had a truly sensational season for Bruce Pearl and the Auburn Tigers, finishing as the team's leading scorer (16.5 PPG) and rebounding leader (8.5 RPG) and recording an astounding 14 double-doubles.

He was named an All-American and played a key role in leading Auburn to the SEC Tournament victory in Nashville.

Bloom was named the tournament MVP and was named to the All-SEC First Team and SEC Defensive First Team for his performance throughout the season and as an All-American.

The Auburn University men's basketball team won 27 games in the regular season, including a 15-1 record at home, and was named Auburn University Team of the Year.

Dylan Cardwell, along with gymnast Sophia Gross, received the David Housel Spirit of Auburn Award, given to the individual who most “inspires others and selflessly gives of their time and talents to the betterment of their team.”
