“Daily Show” host Jon Stewart poked fun at the Democratic National Convention's (DNC) lineup of apparently contradictory speakers on Friday night.
“A guy yelling, 'Fuck billionaires,' was followed closely by a very happy looking billionaire,” Stewart said, as images of Vermont Sen. Bernie Sanders and Illinois Democratic Gov. J.B. Pritzker appeared next to him. Sanders spoke at the Democratic National Convention before Pritzker.
“'Our billionaires can handle it!'” Stewart jeered as the crowd erupted in applause and cheers.
Pritzker is the 946th richest person in the world, with a net worth of $3.5 billion. According to To Forbes.
Stewart took a moment to regain his composure before mocking the DNC again, saying, “I don't like billionaires, but he's OK!”
“There are people who make fun of people who go to Yale or who went to Yale,” Stewart continued, first showing a photo of 2024 Democratic vice presidential nominee Tim Walz, and then adding pictures of five Democratic speakers, including 2016 presidential nominee Hillary Clinton. “The Democratic Party has someone who has prosecuted a sex offender!” Stewart yelled as a photo of 2024 Democratic presidential candidate Kamala Harris appeared on the screen next to him. “And…”
A photo of former President Bill Clinton then appeared on screen next to Harris' first image, and the “Daily Show” host first looked toward Clinton's photo, then darted his eyes around, shuffled some papers and burst out laughing.
“Reservations are cancelled,” Stewart joked.
The Democratic National Convention took place from August 19 to 22 at the United Center in Chicago.
