Josh Brolin says he’s taking a step back from acting after director Denis Villeneuve was snubbed at the Oscars for “Dune: Part 2.”
The famous actor revealed on his Instagram story that he is standing by his said before Variety after Villeneuve was snubbed by the Academy when he wasn’t nominated for the first “Dune” movie. Nominations were announced Thursday.
“If he doesn’t get nominated this year, I’ll quit acting,” Brolin told the outlet last fall. “It was a better movie than the first one…It was spectacular and Dennis is one of our master filmmakers. If the Academy Awards mean anything, they recognize him. ”
Brolin put it all out there for his over 3 million followers and backed up his comments. He seemed oddly comfortable with stopping.
“Apparently, I’m quitting acting because Denis Villeneuve wasn’t nominated,” he said. “That’s just how this thing works. It doesn’t make sense to me, and I’m okay with that.”

The 56-year-old actor looked genuinely annoyed to discover that Villeneuve wasn’t in the running for Best Director when the Academy Awards were announced. It’s hard to say if he’s actually serious about quitting, but it would be a shock to many if he ended his acting career over this.
Brady Corbett in “The Brutalist,” Jack Ausher in “Emilia Perez,” Sean Baker in “Anora,” Coralie Furzee in “Substance,” and James Mangold in “Complete Unknown” all fall into that category. Nominated.
“Dune: Part 2” earned five Oscar nods in other categories. The film was nominated for Best Motion Picture of the Year, Best Sound, Best Achievement in Visual Effects, Best Achievement in Cinematography, and Best Achievement in Production Design.
