A few days after shocking the world with his upset victory in the 2016 presidential election, Donald Trump has “the ultimate deal” between Israeli and Palestinian Arabs to resolve a “unending war.” He supported his wish to negotiate.
As a Trump I said Wall Street Journal at the time: “As a deal maker, I want to… a deal I can’t do. And do it for humanity.”
More than eight years later, democratic regnum and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu returned to the White House at his side, confirming that Trump is interested in building the “ultimate deal.” Importantly, however, Trump’s fundamental parameters of such dealings have not, to put it mildly, been supported for a long time by the establishment of bipartisan foreign policy. Before we get into his latest proposal, let’s flashback to Trump’s first term.
From 2017 to 2021, Trump was the most pro-Israel US president since the establishment of the modern Israeli state in 1948. Transaction, moving US embassy to Jerusalem, acknowledging Israeli sovereignty in light of Golan Heights, Trump is again standing in the White House with Netanyahu – his “peace” to end the Israeli-Palestinian conflict The plan was announced. (Related: Trump cheats on a poison that could destroy his Magazine agenda)
Although incomplete, it was the most pro-Israel plan to resolve the conflict that the US president has proposed to date.
The “peace to prosperity” plan justified Israel’s application of sovereignty to the Jordan Valley and the contested regions of Jewish and Samaria (the “West Bank”), so many of the traditional Arab supporters of Palestinians peaked. It was made. In June 2020, Yousef al Otaiba, the UAE U.S. Ambassador to the United Arab Emirates, made the unprecedented step of revealing Hebrew Operating Warning Israel to avoid moving forward with claims of additional sovereignty.
However, just two months later, in August 2020, the United Arab Emirates became the first Arab state in two and a half years to establish peace with Israel. Bahrain, Morocco and Sudan soon followed, joining the UAE in the Peace Circle of Abraham Accord Circle.
Meanwhile, Trump and Netanyahu have done more to achieve Israeli-Arab reconciliation than all previous US presidents and Israeli Prime Ministers combined. They exposed the failed consensus. For decades, the devastating Shivboles pushed for decades by Washington’s professional “peace process” cartel, where only Israel’s territorial concessions could bring peace.
“Peace Process – People” pushed their “back-back” approach. Create a new Palestinian state and Arab countries normalize ties with Israel. Trump and Netanyahu reversed the playbook and called for a novel “outdoor” approach.
It worked like a charm. As both leaders recognized, Hamas Oberangaza Strip was already Has beena miniature “two state solutions” in operation since Israel’s unilateral withdrawal in 2005. And it was a terrible disaster.
It brings us to the present.
Earlier this week, Trump hinted at the idea that he wanted Egypt and Jordan. The latter was literally established as a “Palestinian” state under the terms of the European powers’ post-World War II reconciliation and British orders. In the case of Palestine – Absorbing the Arab population of Gaza. He doubled since then. This idea of population transfer is to be gentle in the Arab world.
But Trump has overcome such resistance before.
Three consecutive presidents, Bill Clinton, George W. Bush and Obama, did not fulfill the 1995 Jerusalem Embassy Act. This mandated the transfer of the US embassy in Israel to Jerusalem by issuing a “national security” exemption every six months. Everything was scared of the proverb “Arab Street.” Trump didn’t care anyway, he did that. The reaction turned out to be quite muted.
It is enough to say that Tuesday’s trip to the White House of King Abdullah II of Jordan is interesting.
But population relocation to Jordan and Egypt are only the first half of what Trump has in mind. He casually but assertively states that the US intends to “take over” Gaza after Israel’s war against Hamas, everyone around him, including White House Chief Susie Wills. It shocked me. The US would “own” Gaza, Trump said, and made it the “Middle Eastern Riviera.”
Or perhaps we shouldn’t take literally cards. Perhaps this is very similar to the 2020 “Prosperity for Peace” plan. This is a negotiation tip with a bigger plan. It is a very decisive entrance to the Abraham Accord Alliance in Saudi Arabia. And certainly there are some early second-phase data that support the “chip negotiation” theory. Trump’s recent delay in 25% tariffs in both Canada and Mexico corresponds to leaders of both countries who agree to send troops to their respective borders. For example, us.
It’s hard to know exactly what Trump is thinking here. There is a real reason for skepticism, but there is a real reason for hope.
He’s done this before. Let’s hold on and see the Shivveres Buster actually moving. He might again be very surprised to us.
