Joshua Brown contests Bob Wills for mayor of Bay Minette

Joshua O. Brown Announces Candidacy for Mayor of Bay Minette

On July 5th, Joshua O. Brown, a lifelong resident of Baldwin County and community advocate, officially declared his candidacy for Mayor of Bay Minette.

Brown shared that growing up in the Baptist Church in Baldwin County helped instill a deep affection for his hometown and a strong desire to restore its lost promise. “I’ve seen Bay Minette begin to thrive in my lifetime, but I’ve also watched it fade,” he noted. He pointed out that significant manufacturing industries, like standard furniture, have left over the past 13 years, and local businesses have frequently come and gone. The population has dwindled from 9,200 in 2020 to 8,500 in 2024, despite claims of ongoing growth.

Brown expressed his belief that the current administration is holding Bay Minette back from its potential.

“Growth without local inclusion isn’t genuine growth,” he remarked. He mentioned prominent employers such as Novelis, emphasizing that it’s not about a lack of desire to work among locals, but rather a lack of necessary tools, training, and access. “Our leaders focus on excuses instead of taking action,” he added.

He aims to create an administration dedicated to workforce development, tackling longstanding infrastructure issues like drainage and road repairs, and ensuring opportunities are available to all residents regardless of their background. Brown also criticized what he perceives as a culture of misinformation and broken promises from current leaders.

“There’s no timeline for the shopping center. No schedule for the proposed Circle K. Just no real plans for meaningful change,” Brown stated, advocating for more honesty from the leadership.

In addition to economic issues, Brown highlighted growing concerns about public safety, noting that Bay Minette’s crime rate, including violent crime, is above the state and national averages.

“We can’t build a successful city on fear,” Brown asserted. He highlighted concerns about gun violence, theft, and drug-related problems, emphasizing that families deserve to feel secure at home and seniors should enjoy their neighborhoods without worry.

He voiced skepticism about the current administration’s commitment to community policing, youth engagement, or crime prevention programs.

“I’m not running just to hold an office or maintain power. I’m running for single mothers who are tired of broken promises,” he said, pointing out issues like local drainage problems that need to be addressed.

According to Brown, his campaign transcends party affiliations, focusing instead on restoring integrity and delivering results for everyday people.

“This election is larger than Democrats and Republicans. It’s about building a Bay Minette that works for everyone,” he proclaimed. “If I become mayor, I’ll fight for all, regardless of who voted for me. This is Bay Minette’s moment.”

Brown called on voters to reclaim their voices, take ownership of their city’s future, and unite for the revitalization of Bay Minette.

“We are the county seat and at the heart of Baldwin County. It’s time to set a positive example. No more lies. No more settling for the status quo. The people of Bay Minette deserve better,” he concluded.
