Joshua Brown starts his campaign for mayor of Bay Minette

Joshua Brown Announces Candidacy for Mayor of Bay Minette

Business executive and community leader Joshua Brown has declared his intention to run for Mayor of Bay Minette, setting his sights on ushering in a new approach characterized by transparency and inclusive governance. The election is scheduled for August 26, 2025.

A lifelong resident of Bay Minette and currently serving as the sales director for Foley’s Local IT, Brown is openly questioning the current administration’s leadership and financial management, offering voters a significant alternative.

“Simply put, many decisions are being made behind closed doors, and the public isn’t fully aware of the key facts,” Brown stated during his announcement. “Effective governance requires elected officials to engage in open discussions and clarify how choices are made.”

In his remarks, Brown took aim at what he described as “deliberate silence” from city hall, emphasizing that such a lack of transparency damages public trust and leaves residents feeling disconnected from the decision-making process.

Brown further highlighted concerns regarding the local economy. “Bay Minette has seen stagnant growth over the last ten years,” he pointed out. “Our per capita household income lags 10% behind the rest of Baldwin County, with urban poverty rates affecting nearly 8,500 individuals, making up about 30% of the population.”

He indicated that what he views as an untenable borrowing practice has only exacerbated the city’s debt. “We’ve incurred over $500,000 in interest payments in 2024 alone, and the city’s debt has risen by 42% since 2015,” he remarked. “We can’t lease a route to success, especially when younger generations, particularly parents, are left to bear the burden of repaying it all.”

Brown’s campaign will draw heavily on his business acumen and strong ties to the community. He holds both a bachelor’s degree and an MBA from the University of Southern Alabama and is actively involved in local initiatives. His volunteer efforts include leading seminars, called “Finance 101,” for young adults and seniors, coaching at Bay Minette Elementary and Baldwin County High School, and serving as the lead musician at Bethlehem Missionary Baptist Church. He is also leading a social event for young professionals through the Eastern Shore Chamber.

To kick off his campaign, Brown has planned a community celebration on Saturday, July 12, from 10 AM to 12 PM at the Douglasville Pavilion in Bay Minette.
