Juandalynn Givan: Woodfin ‘did nothing at all’ to address gun violence in Birmingham

Givan Criticizes Woodfin’s Handling of Violent Crime in Birmingham

State Representative Judalynn Givan (D-Birmingham) has called out Birmingham Mayor Randall Woodfin for not adequately addressing the rising violent crime in the city.

As she prepares to challenge Woodfin in the 2025 mayoral race, Givan has asserted that she’s taken more meaningful steps against gun violence than the current administration.

During a discussion on WVNN’s “Dale Jackson Show,” state lawmakers addressed the concerns regarding public safety.

“Honestly, I don’t usually comment on my opponents, but I feel the need to here,” Givan stated. “It’s disappointing to see the administration not take action. They didn’t seek assistance, I did. I reached out to representatives, explaining that Birmingham has become a daily bloodbath.”

Givan expressed her discontent with Woodfin’s reliance on the bill’s passage without proactive measures to combat crime.

“City Hall hasn’t addressed this issue at all,” she criticized. “I’m the only candidate who has consistently stood up to City Hall about this, and it shows; I’m taking action.”

The Birmingham native elaborated on the crime dilemma, noting her close connection to the community.

“I know firsthand about the challenges we face,” Givan remarked. “With only 300 people in Birmingham, our law enforcement is overstretched. There are neighborhoods now with barricaded streets.”
