Judge decides that the suspect in the death of a Yuma woman in 2023 will face trial on all counts.

Trial Begins for Yuma County Murder Suspect

Yuma County, Colorado — The trial for the man accused of murdering 25-year-old Britanni Meek in 2023 kicked off on Friday.

Clifton Clayton Boges, 63, appeared in court for a preliminary hearing where he faces various charges, including first-degree murder linked to Meek’s death.

During the proceedings, District Attorney Travis mentioned that any plea deal is no longer an option.

Meek had been reported missing in October 2023 from Yuma. On November 22, her body was discovered almost a month after her disappearance, though authorities have not disclosed the specifics regarding where or how she was found.

In the aftermath of the discovery, Denver7 continued to receive insights from Yuma residents expressing doubts about the true perpetrator.

It wasn’t until eight months later that news broke of Boges’ arrest. He was taken into custody by U.S. marshals on July 29, 2024, in Lake Placid, Florida.

Denver7’s investigation accessed Boges’ arrest report, revealing that Meek’s body was found on private property. Additionally, several individuals who knew her had repeatedly mentioned Boges’ name to the investigators.

The report also discussed surveillance footage from the night Meek was last seen alive, showing three individuals entering her usual lodging. However, only two were seen leaving, and the footage allegedly suggested a body on a shelf.

Details emerged from the investigation that Meek had a history of drug use, and her family indicated she might have engaged in exchanges for drugs.

Law enforcement conducted searches in Yuma County where Meek’s body and vehicle were located, uncovering blood in both locations. The autopsy results seemed “unique” but were labeled “not suspicious.”

On Friday, the Weld County coroner, Michael Burson, testified that Meek succumbed to complications from methamphetamine, and he described the cause of death as “undecided.”

Burson emphasized, “I’m not going to classify this as a murder without doubt,” adding that the circumstances were certainly not natural.

In his testimony, one investigator recounted discussions with a woman who had dated Boges, who expressed remorse, saying, “It’s probably my fault the girl is dead.”

The woman informed authorities that she had warned Boges about potential blackmailing threats from Meek regarding his boss, who owned the property in question.

It was said that Boges and Meek had a brief sexual relationship, with Meek allegedly informing his wife about it, and the woman told Boges to “take care of it.”

Denver7 also uncovered Boges’ troubling past, reporting multiple felonies, including a 1997 conviction following a brutal assault and shooting of a woman, who thankfully survived.

Additionally, cold case detectives revealed that Boges may be linked to the disappearance of Heather Riggio, who went missing in 2007.
