Justin Thomas Makes a Comeback at Harbortown
The Alabama Crimson Tide has a long history of producing PGA Tour talent, but few have showcased Tuscaloosa like Justin Thomas, a two-time major champion. In 2018, he reached the top of the world rankings, just months after securing his first major at the 2017 PGA Championship. By 2022, he was still regarded as one of the elite players globally, navigating the space between his first and second major wins.
But since clinching his second PGA Championship in 2022, Thomas has struggled. His performance last year was disappointing, and he hasn’t won a PGA event since that victory.
That changed this past weekend when he triumphed at Harbortown Golf Link in Hilton Head, South Carolina. With a clutch birdie putt, he edged out Andrew Novak in a playoff, marking a significant return to form.
It’s clear this win meant a lot to Thomas, especially after a long drought of over 1,000 days without a title. This victory also carries the weight of being his first since becoming a father, providing him with heartfelt moments with his family.
Additionally, this marks Thomas’ 16th career win on the PGA Tour and his first at this particular tournament. Now, as he looks to put the last couple of years behind him, he aims for three major opportunities this year, starting with the PGA Championship next month in Charlotte, with another major lined up for June in Oakmont, Pennsylvania.
