There has been a lot of speculation about what DeBoer will do with the defensive coordinator position after solidifying his offensive line primarily with Washington's coaches.
DeBoer's hiring was fast approaching after defensive backs coach Travaris Robinson left for Georgia, then nearly returned but ultimately decided to remain in Athens.
Landing at Womack reunites DeBoer with someone he previously worked with at Indiana in 2019. At the time, he was the Hoosiers' offensive coordinator and Womack was the defensive coordinator.

Womack remained at Indiana in 2020, contributing to a 6-2 season and leading a defense ranked 12th in the nation.
Most recently, Womack's South Alabama Jaguars ranked 15th nationally in overall defense this season, after ranking 26th in 2022. In 2022, he led South Alabama to 10 regular season wins for the first time in program history.
Womack has SEC ties, playing at the University of Arkansas from 2005-2006 and serving as a graduate assistant and defensive backs coach at Ole Miss from 2012-13.
With transfer portal scenarios prevalent, Wommack needs to pursue it in Tuscaloosa so DeBoer can keep his defensive roster.
