Vice President Kamala Harris gaffeed the Pledge of Allegiance Friday before taking the oath of new U.S. senators at the beginning of the 119th Congress.
Harris emerged as the top Democratic candidate months before the 2024 presidential election, but lost her race to President-elect Donald Trump and remains in her constitutional role as president of the Senate. “Please join me in pledging allegiance to the flag,” Harris told senators at the beginning of the session shortly after noon on Friday. “I pledge allegiance to the United States and to the Republic it represents, one nation indivisible, under God, with liberty and justice for all.”
