Kamala Harris Patronizes Convenience Store Her Admin Sued For Allegedly Racist Background Checks

Vice President Kamala Harris campaigned in Pennsylvania over the weekend, stopping off at a convenience store that the Biden-Harris administration sued in April for having racially discriminatory hiring policies.

Harris, along with her running mate, Democratic Minnesota Governor Tim Walz, Stopped by The incident happened at a Sheetz convenience store in western Pennsylvania on Sunday during a quick tour of key battleground states ahead of the start of the Democratic National Convention. The Biden-Harris administration is suing the chain for discriminating on the basis of race by checking the criminal backgrounds of potential employees. The Equal Employment Opportunity Commission, an independent government agency, filed a lawsuit against Sheetz and two of its subsidiaries in April, alleging that the stores' routine criminal background checks on potential employees disproportionately impact minorities and are discriminatory. According to Sheetz denied discrimination and said it has no tolerance for racism in its business.

According to the Associated Press, the federal government said in the lawsuit that 14.5% of black job applicants who did not pass background checks were denied employment at Sheetz, 13% of multiracial job applicants and 13% of Native American job applicants. Meanwhile, less than 8% of white job applicants were denied employment at Sheetz.

On Sunday, Harris and Waltz were in the store picking out snacks to eat on the road as they continued their trip through Pennsylvania. Harris seems to have a weakness for the snack she picked out at the Seats, Doritos. Binge Campaign emails said some people ate cheese chips in despair after former President Donald Trump won the presidential election in 2016.

Neither Sheets nor the Harris campaign immediately responded to requests for comment.
