Kamala Harris’ VP Flies In Face Of Major Donor Base

Vice President Kamala Harris' Hollywood donors wanted Democratic Pennsylvania Governor Josh Shapiro to be her running mate, Deadline reported in an exclusive story published Tuesday.

In late July, Hollywood's elite were lining up to give money to Harris' presidential campaign. Deadline reported Exclusive Tuesday morning article, Most entertainment industry leaders said they had hoped Shapiro would be on Harris' shortlist.

“Josh Shapiro,” a senior administration official told the outlet, “will win the election in Pennsylvania.”

Another person leaned towards Pennsylvania, saying, “Whoever wins Pennsylvania wins the White House, so ask yourself: Who do you think Harris is leaning towards?” (RELATED: 'That's my son': Vance's mother spotted in teary-eyed in Republican National Convention crowd)

“They know each other well, they get along well and the chemistry is key,” the source added.

“Shapiro is TV-friendly and social media-friendly. [“West Wing”] “Casting is tough,” joked another “big name” donor. It seems Hollywood was all in on Shapiro, but not on Harris.

“Governor Shapiro knows Congress well, is strong on Israel issues, and has 14 percent of Trump voters in Pennsylvania backing him,” a person who would only be identified as a “Hollywood operative” added about Shapiro. “People here don't know him well, but they like what they know and have a feeling he'll win.”

Instead, Harris picked Democratic Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz as her future running mate on Tuesday morning. (Related article: Joe Scarborough and Tim Walz say Harris brings political imbalance)

“Harris has done no wrong so far, so people will support whoever she picks,” a producer with deep ties to the Democratic Party told Deadline. (RELATED: J.D. Vance's 'Hillbilly Elegy' Soars to the Top of the Charts After VP Release)

“I'd pick Waltz. I want it to be Waltz,” one director argued, but he was the only one to make that claim. “Tim Waltz is like Tim Kaine,” said another. “He's a safe choice, a nice guy, but doesn't contribute much. Now we need to do everything we can to counter Trump.”

Those were the only two people mentioned Waltz in the Deadline article.

Harris won the Democratic presidential nomination on August 2nd in a party-line vote with little support from primary voters.

CNN's Van Jones suggested Tuesday that Harris may have succumbed to a “darker side” of the Democratic Party by choosing Walz. Anti-Semitism has “permeated” the Democratic Party, Jones said, and Harris' selection has heightened insecurity that must be addressed immediately.
