Kane Wommack discusses why players are staying and the possibilities for 2025.

The Alabama Crimson Tide is preparing for the second season under coach Kane Wommack, moving on from the previous era quite decisively.

After Wommack was brought in from his position as head coach at South Alabama, his team faced significant challenges early in his first season. However, as the year progressed, they emerged as one of the top-performing groups nationwide, with many key players returning for the upcoming season.

Importantly, they didn’t lose crucial talent to the transfer portal, which has become a common issue in today’s college football landscape.

On Tuesday morning, Wommack spoke with 105.5 WNSP in Mobile about how he and other coaches have worked to support their players, crediting their head coach heavily.

“I think he’s doing an amazing job,” Wommack remarked. “He’s aggressive, engaging, and stays relevant to what matters. He understands the business aspect of the game while keeping the focus on what’s essential: maximizing opportunities for both individuals and the team.”

He also discussed the pressure players feel to secure as much financial support as they can, and how their team is working to navigate that in Alabama.

“There’s this idea that everyone should focus on getting theirs. But you can also choose to sacrifice for the team. High tides raise all boats,” he noted. “We want our players to embrace that mindset. Sure, everyone wants the starters, but our backups and third-string players are just as valuable. It’s been impressive to see how our coach has encouraged them to invest in the team while still considering their personal goals.”

This year’s Crimson Tide defense may have the potential to be one of the strongest in the country, showing significant commitment from the players.
